After two large-scale productions for Cullberg in recent years, choreographer Jefta van Dinther returns to the company to create two new works, starting with the solo Mountains for dancer Suelem de Oliveira da Silva, in which he investigates the relationship between Father Earth and Mother Heaven.

At the centre of the performance is the question what it means to be human. As a human being we are continuously confronted with our own involvement with nature and culture. Our discomfort is directed both down- and upwards : at the exploitation of the earth and the shrinking of the heaven above us.How can we remain in love with our everchanging world ? On stage a performer utters strange and known words. In the name of all others she raises her voice in complaint. Mountains is a ritual in the form of a dance concert – raw, forceful and organic.

Choreographer and dancer Jefta van Dinther works and lives in Stockholm and Berlin. The moving body is at the centre of his work and interacts with light, sound and materials that form an environment of perception and sensation. His work deals with labour, illusion and creepy darkness, the visible and the unvisible and mixes voice, movement and image to one whole with space and light. At NEXT 2019 he presented The Quiet, a resting- point for an over-excited world.
