What moves the human being?
Motus Mori RELIQUIEM is an intimate ritual that invites you to think about human movement. With the help of headphones and careful directions, you get to know extraordinary people and their personal movements. Follow in Isa's footsteps, sit upright like Wim or do the same heel exercises as Bernardie. You get to know their motivations in the most direct way: through your own body. What moves you?
In the multi-year art project Motus Mori, Katja Heitmann collects and preserves human movement. Since 2019, more than 2000 people have already donated their personal movement to this embodied archive, an ever-growing base from which the choreographer creates new artworks. Movements from the border region were also added to this archive during NEXT 2024, with a stunning moving expo at the Kortrijk Paardenstallen and the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Lille as the apotheosis.
With RELIQUIEM, Katja Heitmann takes her archive research to the next level, namely creating a collectively shared movement heritage to safeguard it for the future. This archive is transferred to “everyone”, thus we live on in someone else's body. After all, who doesn't want to keep moving forever?
