Already in his early twenties top producer Julien Gosselin astonished the world with his epic theatre marathons, often based on classics of contemporay literature. Roberto Bolaño's 2666, Michel Houellebecq's Les particules élémentaires, three novels by Don De Lillo : in the hands of Gosselin they become enormous happenings that can last as long as twelve hours.
This time the Frenchman lets his company Si vous pouviez lécher mon coeur collaborate with the actors of the legendary Berlin Volksbühne. They take you along to the artistic and intellectual refinement of the Vienna of the years 1900. But its pursuit of beauty and ideals hides a longing for death and a restrained brutality. In this context Gosselin situates the destruction of western civilisation and culture. On stage : the apocalypse of yesterday and today, in the language of Arthur Schnitzler and Thomas Bernhard.
Extinction is radical text theatre, an electronic musical concert and an impressive video installation all in one.
