Disgrace describes the fall and decline of David Lurie, a white professor of literature at the university of Cape Town. Dismissed for sexual harassment, he escapes the city and moves in with his daughter Lucy in the South African hinterland. A violent raid with rape by blacks from the neighbourhood transforms the place into a dismal hell. Disgrace is an intense pamphlet against hate and confinement, a metaphor for the fears of Europe, which is confronted with radical changes. The Hungarian producer Kornél Mundruczó successfully adapted this post-apartheid novel by Nobel Prize winner J.M. Coetzee for the theatre and already staged this play a.o in Avignon. Mundruczó is not only a theatre maker but also a renowned film producer who has won several prizes in Cannes.
