In a poetic, choral and musical performance - laced with biting irony and absurd humour - Ntando Cele seeks connections between neocolonialism and ecology, climate change and oppression. Wasted Land is a vivid requiem dedicated to the ancient dream of a just, sustainable, Eurocentric world. Ntando Cele invites you to see the world from her black South African shoes. What do you do when you are on the other side of privilege?

Wasted Land exposes the schizophrenia of society: between Western 'feel good' ecology and the reality of sweatshops lies a pile of clothing that has become toxic waste. Through a decentred gaze, Ntando Cele questions the worrying absence of indigenous communities and African, Latin American and Indian countries in debates around solutions to climate change. As if part of the world still has no place in this future society. If the earth truly belongs to all its inhabitants, then we should all have a say in how we consciously and unconsciously contribute to it.
