A subtle choreography gives an insight into the life of a woman who one day decides to stay in bed instead of fighting for her rights. She was a friend of someone else was created in a country where women have limited access to contraception and where abortion is illegal. In this creation, the Polish theatre-maker Gosia Wdowik explores the link between burnout and activism: the fear that rights are not acquired for life and can disappear if you are not careful.
Despite immense protests in Poland, women's rights remain disregarded. This project began with the idea that women could come together, without shame or fear, and publicly announce that they had had an abortion. The law could have been changed by this collective action and this could have been an activist success story, but even the new Polish government seems in no hurry to make women masters of their own body  again.
Although theatre-maker Gosia Wdowik's heart is in Poland, her imagination transcends every boundary. She has previously worked around burnout and the space between exhaustion and control, applying activist methods in her artistic practices. In this way, Gosia Wdowik questions how one can both make theatre and bring about change from a place of exhaustion.
