A man and his reflection. A solo, a dialogue. Who is the real one and who is the double ? Visual artist and theatre maker Kris Verdonck uses the texts of the German author Heiner Müller as a starting-point for his new production. It spirals around the intriguing theme of the other, the doppelgänger, the enemy. Man needs an enemy, Verdonck argues, because the opponent –who is everything that we are not- defines to a large extent what we actually are.

Verdonck elaborates the theme of the double / opponent on different levels that collide and resonate. Heiner Müller’s work is the perfect instrument to do this. In his texts he analysed the revolutions of the 20^th century very sharply. Nobody succeeded better in connecting the twofoldness and the inner conflict both in the individual and the political area.

Kris Verdonck was trained in the visual arts, architecture and theatre. This shows in his creations. He likes exploring the boundaries between various disciplines. Johan Leysen is an actor of international renown. He shoulders the solo / dialogue.
