Last year in NEXT Kelly Copper and Pavol Liska raised hell with a crazy western play in the style of Quentin Tarantino. One day the inventive duo hád to make a film ! Die Kinder der Toten is based on the roman à clef of the same name by Nobel Prize winner Elfriede Jelinek, in which a woman who died in a car crash comes back in order to revive the dead in an Austrian cinema led by a Nazi widow.
Zombies and old school horror are never far away in this cocky film adaptation ! Copper and Liska present Die Kinder der Toten as a silent B-film shot in Super 8 format and played by amateur actors. The American couple went in search of the original locations from the book, in the region where Jelinek grew up, and called in the famous Austrian director Ulrich Seidl as producer. The result gives a totally personal turn to Jelinek's classic about the icy silence around Austria's Nazi past.
The New York Nature Theater of Oklahoma acquired world fame with epic spectacles such as No Dice and Life & Times. The second work had ten parts, all of them based on a telephone conversation of a woman who speaks about her life during sixteen hours in total. After the theatre stage the duo now also successfully goes for the silver screen. In February Die Kinder der Toten had its premiere at the International Filmfestival of Berlin where the film was awarded the important FIPRESCI prize.
