A ballet of fleeting appearances.
The relationship between performer and spectator is one, if not thé pillar of the cooperation between dancers/performers Heine Avdal and Yukiko Shinozaki. In the performance distant voices for example (at NEXT Artsfestival 2014) the space of the theatre was opened up to the foyer, the backstage, the street...and performers and spectators finally mingled.
Their new performance unannounced already begins in the foyer, and from there starts a ride full of fleeting appearances. Together with four other performers and the audience, Avdal and Shinozaki want to examine the change of focus when something takes on another form. Unannounced is an exploration of the grey area between 'not yet' and 'no more'.
Whereas their focus in previous creations was spatial, Avdal and Shinozaki now zoom in on time. They are convinced that -these days- we do not experience time as linear or cyclic but fragmented : simultaneous in different directions.
Avdal and Shinozaki's work (together 'fieldworks') is always dreamlike and slightly absurd. They like to dismantle the classic theatre – or to intervene artistically in non-theatrical places such as offices, hotels and supermarkets.
Next to distant voices, their nothing's for something was shown at NEXT Artsfestival in 2012.
