Sacré Printemps!

Aicha M'Barek (France / Tunisia), Hafiz Dhaou (France / Tunisia) & Cie Chatha (France / Tunisia)

60 minutes

A hymn to Tunesia.

“The performance shows a lot of energy, with strong rhythm sections and an atmosphere of manifestations.” (Ubiquité culture)

Sacré Printemps!  is an ode to freedom and a tribute to the Tunesian citizens who have fought for this freedom – often a life-and-death struggle.

Five dancers dance among cardboard figures of Zoo Project (alias of Bilal Berreni), who was killed at the age of 23 by a gang of raiders some time ago. Berreni was a promising artist, famous and praised for his committed drawings of Tunesian revolutionaries and later also Syrian refugees. Through his work in the aftermath of the Arab Spring the choreographers Aïcha M'Barek and Hafiz Dhaou said they were reminded that “art is in agreement with its time and context”.

Their choreography evokes the new hope but also the tensions that arise on the eve of a new order. The five dancers compete or merge with Berreni's figures driven by the up-tempo soundtrack of Ivan Chiossone and Eric Aldéa (together Zëro) Their body language – sometimes powerful, sometimes vulnerable – expresses a message of optimism.

M'Barek and Dhaou, both born in the Tunesian capital Tunis, have been dancing together since 1995 and founded their own company Chatha in 2005. They created Sacré Ptrintemps! during their residency at the Brussels Moussem.
