The Panorama exhibition is a classic at NEXT. It is the most important annual event of Le Fresnoy – Studio National des Art Contemporains, established in Tourcoing. This 24^th edition offers the public a chance to discover more than fifty new works in the field of film, photograph, sound and digital art created by the artists of the school. With the theme 'de l'autre côté' curators Marie Lavandier and Pascale Pronnier focus this time on transition, the border, the becoming.

Both the Panorama exhibition and Le Fresnoy are places where we enter an other world. Past the barbed wire, the wall, the mirror, the tipping point ; there waits the other side of the world. Or : there the world lets itself be looked at in a different way. It is this double movement that the participating students of Le Fresnoy and their visiting lecturers make in Panorama. But this also goes for the curators. They do not choose work or artists – indeed these are in full development – but walk along in this very development.

The other side is also that of Le Fresnoy itself : once a place for cultural amusement (film, dance music) where also boxing and wrestling matches took place ; now a hidden breeding place for creativity. The other side is the one to which art gives access ; in this exhibition you see the fire of the Notre Dame, a Tunesian desert, a prison cell, a ritual, ghostly figures, an elderly double who manifests himself in the mirror of the swimming pool.

The heart of the exhibition is a cinema screen on which 29 new films get their première.
