The performance Melodrama / Outstaged is a fictitious documentary about the functioning of memory. To what extent do we edit our own life ? What is reality and what is fiction ? What is memory and what imagination or interpretation ?
When Eszter Salamon looked up her own name on the internet 6 years ago she discovered a namesake. She went to visit her in her village in Hungary and interviewed her extensively. With a view to Melodrama/Outstaged she visited her again this year. Both interviews are the material for the performance.
The way in which her namesake relived her past surprised the choreographer and gave her food for thought. How does memory work ? How does a 62-year-old woman deal with her own past ? And how does such an individual life reflect the recent geopolitical history ?
Eszter Salamon took a training in classical dance at the National Dance Academy of Boedapest and subsequently worked together with various choreographers. In 2001 she began to create herself with her solo What a Body You Have, Honey. Since then she has made various choreographic projects in different places in Europe. At present her base of operation is Berlin.
