Je n'ai pas encore commencé à vivre

Tatiana Frolova (Russia) & Theatre KnAM (Russia)

105 minutes

In search of the last generation of Soviets

1991. Tim Berners-Lee presents the first web browser, the world mourns Freddy Mercury ánd...the Soviet Union falls apart. Bye bye communism, bye bye Gorbatsjov : the generation that comes into the world at that moment is born on the ruins of a gigantic dream.

In Je n'ai pas encore commencé à vivre theatre maker Tatiana Frolova goes in search of that last generation. Does it show an unconscious community that was taught to wait instead of acting ? Or is it the fruit of an era that still bears in it the values of collectivism and cooperation ? The truth is more complex, of course.

Frolova collected a lot of testimonies in Komsomolsk on Amoer, the iron and steel centre of the Far East of Russia. Two young inhabitants of the industrial town are in the performance next to the actors of Théâtre KnAM, which always starts from a documentary and social impulse.

Frolova exposes the complexity of present Russia in an inventive, funny and sincere way. She is convinced that it is people themselves who make the nation what it is and can be.
