Dark Noon

Tue Biering (Denmark), Nhlanhla Mahlangu (South Africa), Republique / Revolver (Denmark), Østerbro Teater (Denmark) & fix+foxy (Denmark)

Minimum age 12+
120 minutes

Dark Noon takes you along to a time when 35 million hungry and impoverished Europeans fled to the west in search of a second chance. Their goal : conquer new territory, dig gold and take their share of the American dream. But their journey is dangerous and deadly. In God's land neither the lives of black nor those of white people matter in the ruthless pursuit of happiness.

The piece opens on an empty stage on which immigrants slowly build up the scenery of their new life in the hard country. A village on red clay soil, with a saloon, a gold mine, a railway and a church. Here they are going to record a western. With cowboys and indians, gold diggers and missionaries, and, of course, deadly gunfights. For Dark Noon the prize-winning director Tue Biering works with seven South-African performers and choreographer Nhanhla Mahlangu. Together they tell a moving story about white immigration and about who can represent who on stage.

The Danish company Fix&Foxy of Tue Biering makes theatre, performance and installation art. Through complex stories in playful, entertaining formats, the company brings up prejudices and misconceptions about the world for discussion. From a belief in the power of meeting, it often invites on stage people who are seldom represented in theatres. Thus Fix&Foxy has worked with people with a physical and mental disability, children, prostitutes, refugees, homeless and other groups that are missing in the mainstream of society.

“DARK NOON touched me deeply, gave me goose bumps, made me laugh out loud and left me with a lump in my throat.” (Enturi Kulturland)
