On the borders of Fort Europe a lot of rickety little boats full of refugees are still sinking. The Mediterranean, which should be a connecting power between Southern Europe, North Africa and the Middle East is slowly becoming an anonymous mass grave. In Caliban Cannibal we are in a relief centre -it could be in Sicily or Lampedusa- where an emergency tent has been erected. Two people try to communicate with each other although they don't speak the same language and they have different perspectives : one is a washed ashore refugee, the other a western woman. Caliban Cannibal is necessary theatre, in which video technology is used to tell a universal human story about leaving and hope. The Italian company Motus has been making pioneering theatre since 1991, which tours internationally.
