Arcana Swarm is a choreography for seven dancers, in which Kat Válastur evaluates the origin of mythology. In the third part of her cycle “The staggered Dances of Beauty” she takes us along to special moving landscapes that arise from the synthesis of a digital and analogous life. Válastur wants to define bodies in their archetype but also as digital and biological material. In dark surroundings her dancers unleash a language of movement based on remnants of cultural signs. Ruins of language in a capitalist digital culture blend with mantras of gestures and whispering voices. For this merging the choreographer uses the transforming technique of 'morphing' by which an image or form imperceptibly changes into an other form with stunning effects. You can bet on it : this will be mystical pleasure for eyes, ears and abdomen.
Kat Válastur is considered as one of the most interesting choreographers of this moment in the Berlin contemporary dance scene. In her pioneering creations she developed a very exclusive dance language. From questions about origin and traditions with relation to the virtual and digital it is as if new rituals arise that merge fiction and reality. Striking : for each dance piece Válastur makes her own diagrams, score drawings and texts. In 2016 she was praised by the periodical Tanz as a promising talent for dance, in 2017 she was nominated for the George-Tabori prize.
