Biografie

Joren Vandenbroucke (Ypres, 1995) graduated in 2020 at KASK School of Arts in Ghent with 'The West Flemish Pub Experience', a virtual reality experience voiced completely in West Flemish, the first to do so. The experience places you in a West Flemish pub where you meet the rather rough-hewn pubgoers. Fascinated by the performative power of VR, Joren started looking for ways to use VR and animation in the field of theatre and performative arts. This resulted in his current project, Three Geraniums, in which he questions the seemingly infinite patience of houseplants.

The premiere of Three Geraniums is on 18th of March in CC De Schakel in Waregem.

Three Geraniums

Three Geraniums is a location based performance of approx. 30 min. for 10 people, in which Joren Vandenbroucke, VR creator, and Annelies Van Hijfte, soprano, take the audience on an immersive, audiovisual trip through the subconscious of Patrick, a lonely, 41 year old man stuck in his daily routine, having only his geraniums as observers. They comment, sigh and are looking for sense in the repetitive doings of their owner, hitherto without success. Their existential reflections on the banality of life disappear in the void of Patrick's head as he drinks his coffee and eats his daily lasagne.

Joren and Annelies deploy the mastery of their combined crafts, animation and opera, within the confined space of a real living room to bring this story about longing and boredom to their audience, who sits down next to the geraniums to enjoy the spectacle of Patrick’s dull life. Be ready to get immersed in lasagne, coffee and potting soil.
