Theatrical fragmentation bomb that explodes in our face
'In our country two women are murdered each week, and this has been the case for ten years. In spite of this women have to keep defending and justifying themselves to the people who want to listen to them. But with each new death we never miss the minute of silence in front of the town hall.'
Agnès Mateus is the standard bearer of Catalan theatre. Together with her companion Quim Tarrida she reflects on gender violence and social passivity in this performance. Their goal : call a spade a spade. How is it possible that we so often see injustice happen right in front of us without moving even a finger or raise our voice ? Mateus and Tarrida want to speak out about our contemporary taboos and hypocrisy, our neglect and despair, our lack of love and the violence that many people are still undergoing today.
Their approach is uncompromising : on stage, for instance, they show a terrifying list of all those who have fallen victim to gender violence since 2015 in Spain. Mateus and Tarrida already visualize the intended impact of their performance in their promotion image : like a paint ball or an egg it explodes in the face of the spectator. Rebota y en tu cara explota is an honest, dedicated, raw work of art.
Agnès Mateus began her theatre career in 1996, when she started being part of the Colectivo General Elèctrica. For eight years, until the company fell apart, she was active in it in different functions : she herself realized stage projects but produced and acted too. Afterwards she worked together with famous theatre makers such as Simona Levi and Rodrigo García. Quim Tarrida is primarily an actor, but as an artist you can't catch him out. His artistic work contains comics, theatre, sound art, design as well as advertizing. After the performance Hostianda a M, Rebota rebota y en tu cara explota is the second time Mateus and Tarrida have been on stage together.
