FAON

Julie Gouju (France)

Minimum age 16+

One man's breath is another man's death. It seems like a law of nature that something must stop to make something else possible. The sacrifice ritual, which takes up a defining place in a lot of cultures in the past and today, reflects this necessity. In FAON choreographer Julie Gouju looks at who or what is killed today to preserve life elsewhere. What happens if we let down or suppress part of ourselves ? What does a sacrifice mean for someone's identity when change is inevitable ?

FAON is a choreographic and theatrical piece for the performer Liaam Iman and dancer-choreographer Julie Gouju, also author of the text. Through movement, rhythm and song they examine how communities, identities and secret longings are sacrificed and how from this transformations originate. Like the chorus sang about the sacrifices in famous antique tragedies, Imam and Gouju stage a memorable duo chorus in this contemporary tragedy. FAON is like the song of the sacrificed, in the hour before his death.
