"Fugen" van Isabelle Schad - 19:00 - Espace Pasolini Valenciennes
The Berlin choreographer and dancer Isabelle Schad used to dance in ballet companies and with Ultima Vez/Wim Vandekeybus. For several years now she has been creating her own performances in which she investigates how music can be converted into movement and the connection between rhythm in sound and in dance. Because of her musical background Schad has always been interested in Bach. For this project she starts from the musical term 'fuga', which -in Latin- stems from the verb 'flee' as well as 'follow', two apparently contradictory concepts. In her choreography Schad tries to embody this contradiction by playing with repetition, deceleration and rhythm. Fugen is an energetic dance solo in which Schad works the different forces in her body into one intriguing choreography.
"4" van Rodrigo García - 21:00 - Le Phénix Valenciennes
“Junkspaces”, this is what architect Rem Koolhaas in his essay of the same name called the soulless, uniform spaces in which we are moving more and more often these days. Shopping centres, airports, conference halls...they've all become so superficial and similar to each other that we have lost an important aspect of human creativity in them, according to Koolhaas.
In his new performance 4, the world-famous Argentinian director Rodrigo García investigates with his company Humain Trop Humain from Montpellier how architecture and use of space influence the human being. What's more he also uses a quote by Rem Koolhaas (about modern cities) as subtitle for his own performance : “Incredible adventures for the brain, the senses and the erogenous zones.” Quite promising...
