Anatomie van de melancholie
Volgens de traditie is klaagzang in principe een vrouwenzaak. Ze dient om uitdrukking te geven aan zowel het persoonlijke als het collectieve. Mourn Baby Mourn is zo’n lamento, die tegelijk choreografie en geluidskunst is, en bovenal een intiem manifest. ‘De achtergrond is een dagelijkse toestand, die lijkt op een soort droefheid en frustratie’, zegt Katerina Andreou, ‘en die zo diep zit dat ik niet meer weet waar ze vandaan komt en of ze wel echt bij mij hoort.’
De choreografe laat zich inspireren door gebaren die een mengeling in zich dragen van kracht en verveling, een combinatie die verrassend genoeg erg aanwezig is in de populaire cultuur vandaag. De solo Mourn Baby Mourn is een noodkreet, een poging om zich een weg uit de melancholie te banen door met al haar kracht, decibels en twijfels tegen de muur te beuken.
Als danseres werkte de Frans-Griekse Katerina Andreou samen met gerenommeerde choreografen als Emmanuelle Huynh en Lenio Kaklea. In haar werk als choreografe interesseert ze zich in de spanning tussen disciplinering en vrije wil, afhankelijkheid en autonomie. Met haar solo A kind of fierce werd ze in 2016 op het ImpulsTanz Festival bekroond met de Prix Jardin d’Europe. In 2018 presenteerde ze op NEXT de solo BSTRD, waarin ze zich, dansend aan een vinyl draaitafel, afvroeg in hoeverre ook de bastaard authentiek kon zijn. In coronajaar 2020 zou ze ook Zeppelin Bend gepresenteerd hebben.
