An investigation into the politics of the orgasm.
After 7 Pleasures (2015) the Danish dancer and choreographer Mette Ingvartsen comes back to NEXT not with one, but with two performances about sex : the solo 21 Pornographies and to come (extended)
To come (extended) is a remake of to come (2005) : a performance about how bodies can be connected to each other, driven by lust and/or social conventions. Then five performers were on stage, dressed in sky-blue morphsuits and arranged according to the most imaginative positions. Now there are fifteen : bodies that melt together and break free again and again on their way to the ultimate orgasm.
By postponing this orgasm, slowing it down and speeding it up extremely, Ingvartsen questions the commercialization of intimacy. Indeed, we are continually surrounded by eroticism : breasts, buttocks and bodily juices are no longer restricted to the bedroom but are played out massively on TV, internet and advertisement bills.
To come (extended) is an investigation into our sexual identity and the politics of the orgasm in the private and public space. As such the performance is part of the cycle The Red Pieces just like 69 Positions, 7 Pleasures, The Permeable Stage and the new 21 Pornographies : each of them performances in which Ingvartsen zooms in on sexuality and the relationship between the politics of the body and social structures, between the private and the public atmosphere.
Mette Ingvartsen graduated in 2004 from Brussels P.A.R.T.S. and obtained
a doctorate in choreography at the University of Lund. Next to the human body, her work is strongly determined by non-human performers and animated materials.
