"A group ritual, which shows us that we must now urgently consider what empathy might mean" (Jette Buchsenschutz, Tanzschreiber.de)
Since 2019 Yasmeen Godder Company has been working on the series of performances Practicing Empathy. How come that we feel related to others and make connection ? And how do we create practices, rituals, songs and choreographies that help us experience complexity without fear or mistrust ?
Practising Empathy #1 focuses on the relationship and connection between the performers who expose their inner world via a series of physical and vocal rituals. In this way they create an environment in which empathy is explored as a way to support and encourage the depth of the needs and utterances of others.
In the second part of the series, Practicing Empathy #2, eight people from the audience enter into a collaboration with as many dancers on a platform of two by two. A very intimate setting, with a purpose: to reclaim physical closeness, once discouraged to fight the COVID-19 virus, as a means to connection, empathy and intimacy.
Don't forget your empathy at home!
NEXT is looking for eight people to take part in the performance Practicing Empathy #2 by 2 For more information: maarten.degezelle@kortrijk.be |
