On the Concept of the Face, Regarding the Son of God

Romeo Castellucci (Italy) & Societas Raffaello Sanzio (Italy)

45 minutes

Starting point is the face of Jesus Christ as depicted in Renaissance painting. On the stage stands the huge painting Salvator Mundi (1465) by Antonello da Messina. Castellucci's Christ glances at what is happening under his very eyes: helplessness, physical decline, endless sadness. In confrontation with human suffering, the face of Jesus becomes the portrait of man, of a man, the spectator himself.
