Œdipus / bêt noir

Wim Vandekeybus (Belgium) & Ultima Vez (Belgium)

100 minutes

In Œdipus/bêt noir, Vandekeybus goes to work on the unconventional text by Jan Decorte. In 1999, Decorte reworked the Greek tragedy Œdipus Rex, the drama about the tragic antihero who kills his father and marries his mother. Decorte wrapped the essence of Sophocles' story in a beautiful, poetic and "childlike" language. In parallel to the immediacy of Decorte’s language, Vandekeybus opts for a straightforward staging: pure, earthy and without embellishments.
