Tatiana Frolova lived and worked in the heart of the industrial town of Komsomolsk-on-Amur, in the far east of Russia for 36 years. Never had she and her company considered leaving their home base although they had already lived through wars with Chechnia and Georgia and the annexation of the Crimean.
On February 24th 2022 the theatre makers left Russia for France. An abrupt decision – shortly before they had yet bought new material for their theatre. But there was a physical, almost animal feeling, Frolova says, that they had to leave if they wanted to save their skin.
With her company, the Théâtre KnAM she presents a documentary play based on the testimonies of fellow countrymen. Nous ne sommes plus...evokes the context of exile and draws a complex portrait of Russia, which is a merciless aggressor but also the place of Frolova's roots and culture. Frolovo's work was shown before at NEXT in 2019 ; then she presented Ma Petite Antarctique, in which the Disney fairytale Frozen became a metaphor for Russia.
