What short stories are for literature or songs for music is the series of choreographies Islands for dance. Each of the separate 'islands' lasts four to twelve minutes and is performed by one to four dancers. Each piece has its own identity but together they form a diverse and captivating movement landscape. In Islands choreographer Salva Sanchis explores how you can improvise within strict compositions. During NEXT the separate Islands are shown as pop-up performances in surprising locations in the three regions, such as shopping centres and museums, or in the open air. On the last day of NEXT a compilation of all islands is performed in the house. Salva Sanchis graduated with the first batch of P.A.R.T.S. students, danced with Rosas for years and has been creating his own performances since.
