With Huis it's the fourth time that Josse De Pauw and composer Jan Kuijken have joined forces. Last summer this large-scale production played at the Festival d'Avignon and it was welcomed warmly in Flanders too. “The best direction of De Pauw in years”, Cobra even stated. In this diptych Josse De Pauw stages an adaptation of The strange rider and The women at the tomb, two tragicomic stories by the Belgian author Michel de Ghelderode (1898-1962) In the first part a roomful of restless sleeping old men are waiting for death to come. In the second part the scene of the action is Maria's house in Jerusalem, the day after the crucifixion of her son. Huis is a music theatre piece, sometimes grotesque, then again extremely fragile. A biblical puppet show that leaves nobody unmoved.
