French because of her origin from Lille, British by her artistic training in London, Belgian because of her studio in Antwerp, Laure Prouvost is an international artist with a marked taste for the cross-fertilization of languages and influences. In LaM the first French laureate of the prestigious Turner Prize (2013) comes home to the museum that marked her childhood. It is also her first large exhibition in her native region.

LaM shows Prouvost's contribution to the French Pavilion during the last Biennale of Venice : Deep See Blue Surrounding You / Vois Ce Blue Profond Te Fondre. The video installation invites you to a road trip between Nanterre, Grigny, Roubaix, the mining basin of Pas-de-Calais, the Palais Idéal du Facteur Cheval, Hauterives, Marseille and Venice. You see a dozen personages of different countries and ages, each of them by means of their own artistic language. Together they form a poetic portrait of the France of the outsiders but just as well the possible representation of a fluid world outside the borders. The octopus of Venetian glass, which completes the installation, symbolically interconnects all the protagonists in the video.

With her intriguing work Prouvost also enters into a dialogue with the spaces and the art brut collection of LaM, which as it were become a sensual extension. Thus she transforms, with humour and imagination, a familiar universe into a surreal dream place where reality and fiction flow together.
