Do My Mouth

Davis Freeman (United States)

Minimum age 15+
95 minutes

How do we pick up our life again after the unexpected death of a fellow human being ? We think we have a way of dealing with loss, until we are confronted with it. In these difficult times for the white heterosexual man the American Davis Freeman takes up a vulnerable position. He takes you with him along love and suffering, hilarity and shame, #metoo and his grandfather with the Ku-Klux Klan. We feel determined by the history of our ancestors but how can we break with it and go our own way ?

Do My Mouth is TED Talk, outpouring and stand-up comedy in one. Freeman openly lays all his cards on the table, celebrates difficult moments and examines how the confrontation with the past can free the way for the future. In his most personal work until now he analyses, against the background of national politics, his most intimate relationships, as a father and a lover, a brother and an artist.

The American Davis Freeman is based in Brussels. His work is often political or documentary and not seldom fights for a more ecological planet. With his company Random Scream he makes docu-performances, music-, theatre- and dance performances as well as installations. Freeman has worked together with greats such as Forced Entertainment, Meg Stuart and Superamas and is one of the family at BUDA, where he made and/or presented the following creations : Saving Energy, 7 Promises, Investment, Some Things Only Become Clear Much Later and (for NEXT 2014) Karaoke (Art).
