From dance to collective identities

How does a collective identity take form ? What is the role of individuals in its building ? The preservation of its memory ?

In C A R C A S S Marco da Silva Ferreira organises a meeting between folk and urban dance, forms of expression of cultures that are considered 'minority cultures', such as LGBTQIA+ or former colonies. This ballet for 12 dancers vibrates as much on house as on kuduro or hard style. With strong footwork, it is supported by a soundtrack of both traditional brass band music and hypnotic electro.

To make the flux of energy tangible the Portuguese imagines an appliance that literally shows the warmth that the dancers emit. The choreography unfolds in a slightly misty space, between light and obscurity, on a linoleum square that reacts to the semidarkness by emitting a green radiation. As the steps intensify the print of the movement takes form. Between past and present, memory and ecstasy, the invisible strength of the dance is revealed in front of our eyes.
