± can really be called made to measure. An ode to the Italian movie maker and poet Pier Paolo Pasolini (1922-1975) presented in Espace Pasolini : no better match than this location for this performance.
For this project, choreographer Ali Moini let himself be inspired by the bodies in Pasolini's films. Pasolini didn't ask his actors to play a role – he wanted them to be simple and precise so that their actions and bodies would determine the environment from themselves. The bodies were never neutral but always mysterious and confusing. They were bulging with political, cultural and social meanings.
In the solo ± Ali Moini shows a few mythical landscapes through a series of scenes, in which he makes connections between his own world and Pasolini's through music and imagination. Via choreography, an adventurous journey is started but a radical self-examination just as well.
About this Moini himself says : “As a choreographer with a background in theatre and music, choreography is boundless for me. In any case I don't feel obliged to obey boundaries. That is the origin of my predilection for Pasolini who made a few masterpieces of the seventh art even though he saw himself as an amateur- filmmaker.”
Ali Moini was born in Shiraz, Iran in 1974. At the age of 17 he joined the Young Orchestra of Shiraz, parallel with his training in song and musical composition. In 1997 he began studying drama and became an actor and composer of the Mehr Theatre Group. As a dancer he worked with a.o. Meg Stuart. Later he developed his own practice as a choreopgrapher.
