SET THE TABLE
Cristina Carvalhal & Raquel AndréPortugal
In July 2021 Raquel Andre and Cristina Carvalhal started an investigation into the stories of people from various communities who identify themselves as a woman. By listening to these voices, they want to contribute to a greater consciousness of the inequalities and abuses patriarchal societies have established in the course of history and have assimilated as norm.
Four cities were involved in the project : Lisbon, Zagreb, Sibiu (Romania) and Kortrijk. In each city Andre and Carvalhal organised a five-days' workshop to work with local communities. Women, different in nationality, occupation, religion, ethnic origin and physicality, took part.
The workshops were based on theatre and dance exercises and individual interviews, in which everybody could feel free to share their story. Some of these stories can be found in the performance and in the documentary that was made during the process. Set the table is performed by the Portuguese professional team and the participants of the workshop in Kortrijk.
