WANTED: LOCAL PARTICIPANTS FOR OPENING PERFORMANCE NEXT 2019
NEXT is looking for 70 local participants for Multitud, the large performance piece by the Uruguayan artist Tamara Cubas. We are looking for enthusiastic amateur performers from the broad region around Kortrijk, Lille, Tournai, and Valenciennes. No experience required.
The rehearsals run from 5 to 13 November, with a performance on 14 November. We provide a meal every day of the rehearsals. Participants also receive a special discounted rate on the other performances at the festival.
Multitud creates encounters on the dance floor between people from different backgrounds. What happens when you put a group of unknown people with a completely different identity and a completely different background together? How do they form a group, a mass? How do they stay themselves in there? Tamara Cubas explores the boundaries between the individual and the other, between private and public, between art and society.
Tamara Cubas is a choreographer and visual artist from Uruguay. She obtained a Master’s degree in Arts & Technology in Utrecht and studied contemporary dance in Montevideo. Her work is located at the intersection of different arts (theatre, photography, video, performance) and different generations.
You don’t have to be a dancer or a performer. The only requirement is that you can handle physical exertion and are over the age of 18. All nationalities are welcome; a mastery of Dutch or French is not necessary.
Every day from 5 to 13 November 2019. Provisional schedule: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. with 1-hour lunch break. Any evening rehearsals will be announced later.
Location: SC Lange Munte Kortrijk & Don Bosco College Kortrijk
November 14, 8:15 p.m. – Location: Kortrijk Xpo
